A number 3 on the sides and blend in the top.

This time when I took the boys to get their haircuts, I thought it would be a good lesson for them to have the responsibility of telling the hairdresser how to cut their hair.  While waiting I gave instructions to ask the hairdresser for "a number 3 on the sides and blend in the top".  Everyone agreed with rolling eyes as to say "yeah, whatever Mom".

Chase got called first.  He politely stated "a number 3 on the sides and blend in the top".  I sat as the proud mother whose child is taking one more step towards independence (I know it is a stretch but that's how I felt).  He was so polite and respectful.  I love that about Chase.

Karson then got called and repeated, "a number 3 on the sides and blend in the top".  Again I sat with pride and of course Karson was elated that he too had remembered my instructions and was able to pass them on by himself.  He looked at me for approval and I gave him a smile and a wink.  I love how Karson beams when he sees I am happy with him.

Arlen heard his name called, walked over to the chair and assertively ordered, "a number 3 on the sides and a mohawk".  He didn't look for approval and didn't care.  I still beamed with pride and giggled a bit.  I love Arlen's confidence, prowess and the way he always manages to make me "lighten up" and have fun.

Brockville California Run 5K

Exactly 15 minutes before the start of this race I realized my Garmin was dead.  I haven't run without some sort of timekeeping device....EVER.  I let this bother me for all of 10 seconds since there was really not much I could do.  Larrin had dropped me off and I left all of my other belongings with him so it was quite obvious I had to manage without knowing my time, distance, speed etc.  No biggie, this was kind of a fun run anyways. There were a few other people from work there; one girl running the 10K and 2 others walking the 5K.  My partner in crime at work showed up with her daughter to take pictures and watch the goings on.  I'm trying to convince her to start running so it was nice for her to see what really goes on at these "race days".  Before the race I also ran into a girl I went to nursing school and it was nice to catch up with her. Running/Knee/Fitness Thoughts

This week I was given some reassurance about my knee stability.  I seen a sports medicine physician at Carleton University Sports Clinic and she sort of verified what I already thought:)  Since my knee has been starting to feel better and I did complete that knee-treacherous mud hero obstacle course, I figured my reconstructed ACL was still intact.  Dr. B said that it was good but a lot "looser" than the right knee.  She said that this is a normal stretching but I need to be cautious on uneven ground and with impact or quick turning sports.  Bottom line....running on even surface okay....everything else I need to wear a brace.  She wrote my a prescription for the brace and now I find a local specialist to measure and custom order the brace.  Also need to figure out if my benefits cover the brace since it will probably be $1000. What do corn and Alaska have in common?

Haven't took the time to write anything lately.  Usually means, I've gone into hiding.  This phenomenon always happens when I am feeling the walls closing in; when life is a bit overwhelming and I have too much on my mind.  Sitting down with my thoughts is therapeutic but I "fight" it for some reason. So what's going on?  Rain, rain, rain and I leave for a one week Alaskan vacation with my mother in 14 days.  Before my departure I wanted life here to be somewhat organized for those that I am leaving behind.  The biggest obstacle to organization is crop planting.  It was my dream that the crop planting would be well on its way to completion and well....not even close. To put it into perspective, we usually plant approximately 265 acres of barley, corn and soybeans.  Currently there is 55 acres planted.  Barley is done, with 35 acres planted.  I guess you can say corn is started with 20 of the 165 acres in.  And the 70 acres of soybeans that was planned hasn'
